Benrinnes 16 Years Old 2007
SMWS 36.210
Benrinnes had an inauspicious start to its life, being rebuilt twice by 1829. The distillery we know today was completed in 1835 and redeveloped in 1955. Throughout it is the character of Benrinnes, helped by the presence of worm tubs, that resonates with whisky enthusiasts. Yes, the 1960s brought more expansion and the Saladin Box, but the most famous move was in 1974. This is when a partial triple distillation process was introduced that has since formed much of Benrinnes’ appeal until it was replaced in 2007. It wasn’t until 1991 that the distillery had its own official release with an entry in the Flora and Fauna series. Only the occasional Special Release has since followed and the distillery has relied upon independent bottlers to showcase its qualities.
