This is the first batch of Benriach from That Boutique-y Whisky Company. The label features some hard working monkeys in desperate need of a massage. Benriach is one of the only distilleries who still malt a proportion of their own barley. The labour was so intense the poor employees used to get a hunchback which became known as a Monkey Shoulder.
‘That Boutique-y Whisky Company’ bottles single malts, single grains, blended malts and blends from a variety of renowned distilleries. These whiskies are adorned with cultish comic book-style labels.
This is a release of 196 numbered bottles.
BenRiach
Benriach has a chequered history since its foundation in 1898. Sold shortly afterwards, as its owner, John Duff, couldn’t afford to keep it going along with the Longmorn distillery. Things didn’t improve for a considerable period of time; 65 years in fact. As the doors closed at Benriach in 1900 for that period of time. Fortunately, the distillery survived and sprung back into life and was expanded in 1985 with a new set of stills. Good times didn’t last too long as the distillery closed its doors again in 2001, but Billy Walker saw the potential and a substantial inventory. Arguably it was only in the following years that we all began to understand what Benriach could deliver, as did Brown-Forman who purchased the distillery in 2016.
