Balvenie TUN 1509

Batch 2
Lot #0280884
FINISH DATE
31 March 2016
After 9 successful batches of the much sought after TUN 1401 Balvenie have decide to enlarge their marriage vessel. 4 times as big as TUN 1401, 1509 has been designed to keep up with high demands.

To create the first batch of TUN 1509, Malt Master David Stewart carefully hand selected 32 of the finest casks – 18 traditional American oak barrels and 7 Sherry Butts, 5 American Oak Hogshead & 2 Sherry Hogshead – from the distillery’s precious aged stocks. All were transferred to TUN 1509, which sits in Warehouse 24, for several months before bottling. This is a rare interpretation of the marrying process and allows all 32 casks to come together to create a unique expression of The Balvenie that’s greater than the sum of its constituent parts.
Balvenie

One of the Dufftown distilleries, or the one next door to Glenfiddich. Balvenie has been forever in the ownership of William Grant & Sons. The distillery was established in 1892 and takes its name from a nearby castle, which was the original name for the town. Compared to Glenfiddich and Kininvie, Balvenie focuses more on the craft aspect of distillery with its branding. A small percentage of its malt is produced on a traditional malting floor and it retains a cooperage. In relative terms, the distillery has only just opened its doors for tours as it continues to grow in popularity. Assisted by 9 distinctive stills and inventive cask maturation, finding favour with many whisky drinkers. So much so, that Ailsa Bay modelled its stills on Balvenie’s, aiming to take up some demand for blends and let the distillery concentrate on expanding the Balvenie range.
