Balvenie Tun 1401

Batch 5
Lot #0290402
FINISH DATE
30 April 2016
Tun 1401 is a very special vatting from Balvenie’s Warehouse 24, one of the oldest areas of the distillery grounds and home to some of the most special casks in Speyside. It was conceived by the Balvenie’s malt master David Stewart, who was so inspired by the magical atmosphere inside Warehouse 24, that he created Tun 1401 to capture the essence of it in a bottle.

Each batch has unique characteristics and ingredients. They were made under the guidance of David Stewart, who hand selected every cask and monitored each batch as they “married” over a three month period. 5 Traditional Oak casks and 4 Sherry casks were used to create Batch 5, a limited release of 2,862 bottles.

Batch 5 was released for UK only.
Balvenie

One of the Dufftown distilleries, or the one next door to Glenfiddich. Balvenie has been forever in the ownership of William Grant & Sons. The distillery was established in 1892 and takes its name from a nearby castle, which was the original name for the town. Compared to Glenfiddich and Kininvie, Balvenie focuses more on the craft aspect of distillery with its branding. A small percentage of its malt is produced on a traditional malting floor and it retains a cooperage. In relative terms, the distillery has only just opened its doors for tours as it continues to grow in popularity. Assisted by 9 distinctive stills and inventive cask maturation, finding favour with many whisky drinkers. So much so, that Ailsa Bay modelled its stills on Balvenie’s, aiming to take up some demand for blends and let the distillery concentrate on expanding the Balvenie range.
