Balvenie 9 Years Old 2005

DCS Compendium Chapter 1
Lot #0710055
FINISH DATE
31 October 2019
Created to celebrate the life’s work of malt master David Charles Stewart, the Compendium is split into five ‘Chapters’, each of which features five single cask whiskies from five different decades.

A different chapter will be released annually between 2015 and 2019, each of them reflecting a different chapter in the accompanying book, written by Balvenie global brand ambassador Dr Sam Simmons.

Chapter One unveiled 13 October 2015 at the Wallace Collection in London features liquid distilled from 1961 to 2009.

The theme of Chapter One is 'Distillery Style'. Chapters Two to Five will focus respectively on: 'The Influence of Oak', 'Secrets of the Stock Model', 'Expecting the Unexpected' and 'Malt Master's Indulgence'.

This is the youngest in the Chapter 1 collection and, in fact, the youngest Balvenie ever released and is a 2005 whisky matured in a refill American oak barrel which, despite being only nine years old has been released with much anticipation.
Balvenie

One of the Dufftown distilleries, or the one next door to Glenfiddich. Balvenie has been forever in the ownership of William Grant & Sons. The distillery was established in 1892 and takes its name from a nearby castle, which was the original name for the town. Compared to Glenfiddich and Kininvie, Balvenie focuses more on the craft aspect of distillery with its branding. A small percentage of its malt is produced on a traditional malting floor and it retains a cooperage. In relative terms, the distillery has only just opened its doors for tours as it continues to grow in popularity. Assisted by 9 distinctive stills and inventive cask maturation, finding favour with many whisky drinkers. So much so, that Ailsa Bay modelled its stills on Balvenie’s, aiming to take up some demand for blends and let the distillery concentrate on expanding the Balvenie range.
