Located 2 miles from the town of Keith, Aultmore which means big burn, was founded in 1896 by Alexander Edward, before it was acquired by Dewar’s in 1923. Its heavier style of distillate, thanks partially to the reflux during distillation, is prized by blenders and has been for many generations. It became a key component of Dewar’s, so much so, when Diageo had to sell the brand to comply with legislation in 1998. It was rumoured that Bacardi would not conclude the $1.9 billion deal without the distillery being included. This acquisition led to the eventual launch of the last Great Malts range in 2014 that included Aultmore. At last, the distillery was being seen and appreciated for its single malt prowess that included an assortment of impressive age statements that introduced new enthusiasts to this remote Speyside distillery.
