Founded in 1898, Glenlochy is located in Fort William and just a short drive from Ben Nevis, which is the sole distilling survivor in the town. However, despite closing in 1983, Glenlochy still stands but has been converted into residential accommodation. For the majority of its lifespan, Glenlochy was a provider to blends and suffered from a variety of owners and periods of closure. During the 1920s it was used as a motor hire business before the charismatic Joseph Hobbs added the distillery to his inventory in the 1930s. Eventually, DCL took over and remained in charge until the distillery was closed. It was an easy candidate for closing, giving its ageing status, lack of modernisation, no single malt presence and small capacity.
