Arran 2013 Hogshead Cask No.415

1x Arran 2013 1st Fill Ex-Sherry Hogshead Cask No.415, held in bond at Arran distillery. The cask was filled on the 05/03/2013, it has been maturing in a warehouse at the Ben Nevis distillery ever since. The cask was re-gauged on the 04/03/2025, following are the results of the re-gauge. Original Bulk Litres 255.75 / New Bulk Litres: 226 Original Strength 63.5% / New Strength: 58.60% Original Litres of Alcohol 162.1 / New Litres of Alcohol: 134 Fees / Other costs to be aware of: Storage & Insurance - £40.00pa Transfer of Ownership - £36.00 Cask Removal - £210.00 Sample - £50/£70 (only 1x 20cl per year) Tasting Notes - Supplied by Angus MacRaild (Whisky Consultant & Author) IMPORTANT: Annual storage fees and any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer. Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Just Whisky. Funds will be held by Just Whisky until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction. The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling. Non-UK buyers must appoint a duty representative to act on his/her behalf for transfer of ownership of the cask. The duty representative will need to be registered with HMRC and will normally charge an annual fee for the service. UK revenue trader (business or private individual connected to the trade), will need to be registered with HMRC and hold a WOWGR certificate. Tasting notes by Angus MacRaild: Nose: a classical sherried profile, with a good balance of drier, earthier tones, some leaf mulch, milk chocolate, fudge and dunnage aromas. A good sense of weight, cleanliness and an emerging fruitiness with time in the glass. With water: slightly softer, with pickled dark fruits, chutney, date molasses and persistent earthy notes. Palate: quite assertive and punchy, with a mix of sweeter and drier elements. More chocolate and fudge, with cola bottle sweets and blackcurrant jam, balanced by more earthy notes and robust tobacco. With water: a more harmonious profile, with more dark, jammy fruit characteristics and treacle. Finish: long, back on chocolate, toasted almonds, marzipan - very typical sherry flavours dominating. Comments: powerful, but excellent, young sherried Arran. The cask shows excellent, clean and classical sherry influence, but it still feels like there is room for this to go another 5+ years if you wanted to allow it to mature further. It also benefits well from slight reduction.
