    Ardgowan

A relative newcomer to Scotland’ distilleries, this £17 million project, near Inverkip, west of Glasgow, promises to bring a maritime influence to the Lowland style of whisky. While we wait for their proposed 7 year old, the distillery is releasing a range of sourced whiskies under the Clydebuilt label, developed by their master blender, Max McFarlane, formerly of Edrington. Situated in an era of Scotland that was once populated by illicit distilling, Ardgowan takes advantage of a cluster of old farm buildings, which were last used as a sawmill and is nearing completion in 2021. The name is a homage to the original Ardgowan distillery that was established in Greenock in 1896 before being destroyed in the Blitz of 1941.
