Bruichladdich explains the thought behind 'This Ternary release, meaning to consist of or involve three, reminds us of a moment in time in our distillery's past. Refuting common practice at the turn of the millennium, we distilled many malt types with varying levels of peat. Combining our three most recognised single malts, this 'Ternary' is three vintages of three spirit types, matured in three classes of casks; ex-sherry, ex-bourbon, and ex-wine. This Ternary is three vintages of three spirit types, matured in three classes of casks; ex-sherry, ex-bourbon and ex-wine. 30% Bruichladdich Single Malt: Unpeated Bruichalddich spirit, distilled before the distillery's closure and eventual renaissance, was first filled into 2nd fill ex-bourbon hogsheads before being re-casked into French red wine casks, then Pedro Ximenez sherry butts from Fernando De Castilla. 40% Port Charlotte Single Malt: This heavily peated Port Charlotte spirit, distilled soon after the distillery's renaissance, was filled into a combination of 1st fill bourbon barrels, 1st fill Oloroso sherry casks and 1st fill Virgin oak. 30% Octomore Single Malt: Ocotomore super heavily peated single malt, distilled in 2008, filled into Sauternes, French Mourvedres, Austrian Sweet Wines, ex-Amarone and bourbon casks.

    Bruichladdich

Since Murray McDavid saved the distillery in 2000, with an asking price of £6.5 million. Bruichladdich has gone from strength to strength after a difficult initial period. Now under the ownership of Remy Cointreau, it is one of Islay’s most recognisable whiskies and brands. Remy brought much-needed financial clout that has allowed Bruichladdich to expand into new markets, build warehousing and pursue its brand of terroir. Today, it offers 3 distinctly different distillates, with the Bruichladdich being unpeated, a historical homage to a lost distillery (Port Charlotte) is heavily peated and well regarded. Then at the top of the peat ranking charts is Octomore, which pushes peat in new directions to an eager audience. Expect production details, various casks and eye-catching branding with each and every release from the distillery.
