Old Pulteney 12 Years Old
Located in the northern town of Wick, Pulteney has been a presence in this fishing port since 1826. It’s a fairly unique distillery in that it hasn’t expanded or changed greatly other than being rebuilt in 1958. Surrounded by weathered stone houses as old as the distillery itself, there isn’t much room to create more space, which is something you can appreciate if you take the tour. Such a small enclosed site and a modest-capacity by modern standards, hasn’t stopped Pulteney from establishing its own presence. Forever associated with the subtle maritime characteristics, the distillery closed for 21 years prior to the rebuild, when the town had voted to adopt its own version of prohibition. The current owners have expanded the range and rebranded in recent years, delivering several new age statements, but retired the fondly remembered 17 year old expression. Even its production limitations, there seems to be enough Pulteney to go around
