The final bourbon-cask release in Kilkerran's Work In Progress series, the seventh edition is now 11 years old. A first for the range, this one has been bottled at cask strength (54.1%). A fitting swansong to the developing spirit, which was awarded 91 points by Serge Valentin of whiskyfun.com

    Glengyle (Kilkerran)

The Glengyle distillery can trace its roots back to the heydays of Campbeltown and 1872. Like so many in the town, the distillery closed in the 1920s and the builds were used for a variety of purposes. It was only in 2000 when Hedley Wright, when faced with Campbeltown losing its regional status with the Scotch Whisky Association, bought what remained of the distillery to ensure there were 3 distilleries in the town. The first spirit ran in 2004, from stills acquired from the closed Ben Wyvis distillery. Enthusiasts were able to follow its development via the Work in Progress range, bottling under the name of Kilkerran. Since these early days, the distillery has gone from strength to strength, manned on a part-time basis by the Springbank team. A heavily peated range was recently added to the staple 12 year old, 8 cask strength offerings and the debut of the 16 year old. Due to the small production and high demand, Kilkerran is an increasingly sought-after distillery.
