    Glencadam

Few distilleries remain along the northeast region that Glencadam populates. Situated in Brechin since 1825, it’s a distillery that has withstood the rigours of technology and efficiencies that have spread across Scotland in recent decades. Very little has changed, with a slight refurbishment in 1959 and current plans for a visitor centre and some sympathetic enhancements. Glencadam is very similar to what it was in the 1800s and only in recent times has it started to establish itself as a single malt. This is thanks to the current owners, Angus Dundee, who purchased the silent distillery in 2003, recognising its potential. Glencadam remains a small producer with a set of stills and a short fermentation time of just 52 hours. However, the distillate is packed full of fruity flavours and it's this more ‘advanced’ style that has won over a more knowledgeable audience today. A variety of cask finishes exist and entry-level offerings, but the best of Glencadam is in an ex-bourbon cask with a teenage age statement.
