    Craigellachie

A bold whisky that today is located within the Bacardi portfolio and is enjoying new levels of appreciation. Craigellachie was founded in 1891 and was completely rebuilt in 1964 to enable more modern means of production. One of its earliest owners was Sir Peter Mackie of White Horse fame, who valued the sulphurous character of the whisky. This style is achieved by fermentation and copper contact with worm tubs also amplifying the distinctive character. For generations, the qualities of Craigellachie were only known to blenders with access to the malt. The nearest many got to the whisky, was driving past the distillery on their way to the famous names residing within Dufftown or Rothes. That changed in 2014 with the Dewars Last Great Malts range, which finally gave the distillery the recognition it had yet to receive. Now we are able to explore the robust qualities that signify this distillery.
