Castle Doune, at one-time stronghold of the young and gallant Earl of Moray, a favourite of Mary Queen of Scots, is set by the River Teith in the heart of some of Scotland's loveliest countryside and it was a mile upstream from the famous castle that a mill was founded in 1785. In time it was realised that the regular unfailing supply of pure soft water which produced such excellent Scottish textiles, was absolutely right for the production of Scottish whisky. So the ancient mill became Deanston Distillery.
