BenRiach 40 Years Old 1983 - SMWS 12.79 40th Anniversary

The SMWS has released one of their finest releases to date to round off their 40th anniversary celebration. This 40-year-old single malt Scotch whisky, Society Cask Number 12.79, was taken from the final cask of 1983 whisky that was still in existence. Only 130 bottles were made available to members only via ballot, making it a very rare and coveted experience.

This unique whisky was disitlled in April 1983, with the first maturation process being in an ex-Bourbon barrel—the same year the Society was founded. The Society's knowledgeable Spirits Team chose the cask and moved the whisky to a refill Spanish oak sherry hogshead in 2018 ahead of their 40th anniversary.

Differing from the Society's regular releases, which are adorned with detailed tasting notes and quirky names, this special 40th-anniversary release embraces simplicity. There are no paper labels; instead, information is printed directly onto the glass. The upper third of the bottle is hand-dipped in dark green wax, paying homage to the Society's iconic green bottles. To ensure this remarkable whisky takes center stage, it comes with a handcrafted walnut plinth and a museum-quality clear case for those who wish to display it in their collection.
